About Heather

Election October 18, 2021

NICE TO MEET YOU. HERE’S A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME.

I have been involved in politics since I was old enough to reach the windshield wipers of cars to place campaign literature throughout the city of Lethbridge. I grew up learning how government works and the best ways to advocate for others. Today, I am driven to create and foster community and growth.

Since moving to Airdrie in 2007, I have raised my three children and created a life I love with my husband.  I am a daughter, a sister, a mother, and a wife. I have been a working professional and a stay-at-home parent. I lead online groups and jump at the opportunity to organize local in-person events. If you are a young family in Airdrie, I get you because I am you.

Among my many passion projects, of note are spearheading the Stocking Stuffer Project with a brilliant team of women and regularly supporting not-for-profits. Particular areas of interest include supporting the Airdrie Judo Club, local arts and theatre ventures, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis Canada, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, for which I have produced and fundraised thousands of dollars in donations over the years.

My true joy comes from connecting with people across Airdrie and knowing their stories. I am enthusiastic about creating inclusive spaces, advocating for those with disabilities and invisible illness, and creating platforms for artists and minority organizations within our city.

WHY HEATHER

  1. I’ll take no decision lightly.  I believe that listening to experts, weighing the facts and valuing actual research are critical to decision-making.
  2. Who better to tackle new ways to reach a goal than a Creative? I’m unafraid to try new things and forge new paths; I’ll be a fresh perspective on council.
  3. Women and youth of Airdrie deserve equal representation.  I understand the load of motherhood and juggling a career. The needs of families in Airdrie have expanded along with our population growth. Our city services should reflect our size but they are seriously lacking.  Organizations that support women and children deserve a more prominent seat at the municipal table. Homelessness, and particularly youth homelessness, needs to be a priority.
  4. I approach everyone with compassion and empathy and encourage others to focus on doing the same. When we know each other’s stories, we can make better decisions for the whole community.
